Connor Spratt, one of our new team members, shares his thoughts on the opening of the new Crisis Harbour based in Wigan.
The opening of the Crisis Harbour in Atherton has been truly inspiring. The space itself is big, open, warm, and most importantly, welcoming. It feels incredibly peaceful to walk into this environment, with its calming nature creating a sense of safety and comfort. Darren, the building manager, has given us invaluable support and helped us feel fully at home and supported from the very beginning.
Positive Outlook for the Future
The first few days have been both exciting and hopeful and we have had interesting conversations about the potential opportunities this centre can offer the wider communities of Wigan and Leigh. From the impactful workshops we already run to envisioning new groups that we can introduce, and most importantly how we can continue to reach those in need.
It’s also been fascinating to collaborate with others, including one of the local GPs. These discussions have sparked ideas about how we can build awareness of what the Crisis Harbour offers and better support those who are already receiving care.
Making Connections with the Community
Connecting with those accessing our services has been especially rewarding. While we’ve started slowly, each conversation has been worthwhile. Some people have come simply to find out who we are and build trust, taking the first step toward opening up. Others have shown incredible vulnerability from the moment they walked through the door.
I feel beyond grateful for every person who has taken the brave step to come in. Opening up and seeking support isn’t easy, and I’m proud that we’ve created a space where people feel safe to do so.
The EPiC HOPE Team
Working alongside the team at EPiC HOPE has been an awesome experience. Although I’ve only known them for a short time, they’ve already shown themselves to be a kind and dedicated group of people.
I know that when times get stressful, which is inevitable in this line of work and with the stories we hear, we’ll be there to support one another. It’s a privilege to be part of such a compassionate and committed team.
This is just the beginning for the Crisis Harbour in Atherton, and I can’t wait to see how this space grows and continues to support those in the community who need it most.
