A Very Big Thank you to all our Volunteers!

As we celebrate Volunteer’s Week, we want to take a moment to recognise the incredible individuals who give their time, support, and compassion to help create a suicide-safer Wigan Borough.

Whether it’s offering a listening ear at one of our Crisis Harbours, preparing Carry You Care Packages, helping at community events, or simply being present for someone in crisis our volunteers help to make everything we do possible.

They come from all walks of life, some bring lived experience whilst others bring specialist knowledge. But what unites them is their shared belief that everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and valued.

In a world where people often struggle silently, the presence of a kind, non-judgmental volunteer can be life-changing for people when they need support the most.

Here’s something one of our volunteers said about working with EPiC HOPE:
“You don’t need to have all the answers – just being willing to listen and offer a bit of your time can mean the world to someone in crisis. Volunteering with EPiC HOPE has shown me the power of compassion and just being there for someone when they feel like they have no one else can make such a difference. It’s reminded me that even the smallest acts can have a lasting impact and I am proud to be a volunteer at EPiC HOPE. I have learnt so many new skills and feel so much more confident with helping people in crisis.”

Why Volunteering Matters to EPiC HOPE:
It allows us to open our doors, run our Harbours, and be there when people need us most. Many of our volunteers have lived experience, and turning pain into meaningful purpose can be life-changing. The more people who stand with us, the more people we can support across our borough. Every volunteer is a powerful voice to support us in breaking the silence and stigma around suicide and mental health. Whether it’s a warm welcome, a conversation, or making someone a brew, the little things really do go a long way when supporting someone in suicide crisis, or struggling with their mental health. This Volunteer’s Week, we wanted to say a very big hank you to every person who gives their time and support to EPiC HOPE!

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, we’d love to hear from you!
