Welcome to Healthy Minds Harbours
We are dedicated to providing wide-ranging support and resources to people struggling with mental health challenges and those at risk of suicide. Our workshops and sessions are designed to cultivate connection, resilience, and personal growth through various therapeutic and creative activities. Below are some of the key programmes we offer:
Hopeful Connections for All
Hopeful Connections for All is an intergenerational group session aimed at individuals aged 16 to 25 and those over 55. This unique programme leverages therapeutic art to create a supportive environment where participants can engage in peer support. Research shows that intergenerational interactions can significantly improve mental health outcomes for both age groups. Younger participants benefit from the wisdom and life experiences of older adults, while older participants find renewed purpose and energy from engaging with younger individuals. Therapeutic art activities encourage self-expression and emotional healing, making this session a vital component of our mental health support offerings.
Creative Writing Sessions
Working alongside Wigan Creative Writing Circle, our Creative Writing Sessions are designed to harness the power of words for mental health improvement. Engaging in creative writing can be deeply therapeutic, helping anyone struggling to explore and articulate their thoughts and emotions. Studies indicate that expressive writing can reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress, making it a valuable tool for mental health management. Participants in our sessions learn to craft narratives, poems, and other forms of written expression, helping them to grow a sense of accomplishment and emotional release.
Mindfulness Sessions
Our Mindfulness Sessions focus on cultivating present-moment awareness through various practices such as meditation, breathing exercises, and mindful movement. Mindfulness has been extensively researched and proven to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and chronic stress. Participants learn techniques to stay grounded and centred, aiming to enhance their overall wellbeing and resilience against mental health challenges.
Workshops for Caregivers and Family Members
Caring for someone who is suicidal or struggling with mental health issues can be incredibly challenging. Our Workshops for Caregivers and Family Members provide essential support and education to those in caregiving roles. These workshops cover topics such as understanding mental health conditions, effective communication strategies, and self-care techniques for caregivers. By equipping caregivers with the knowledge and tools they need, we aim to alleviate some of the stress and emotional burden they experience.
Therapeutic Art
Therapeutic Art is a cornerstone of our mental health support programmes. We use the creative process of making art to improve physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Art therapy provides a safe and nurturing space for self-expression, helping individuals process emotions, reduce anxiety, and enhance self-esteem. Our therapeutic art sessions are led by our in-house trained therapeutic art facilitators who guide participants through various artistic activities tailored to their needs.
Stress Management and Coping Mechanisms Workshops
Our Stress Management and Coping Mechanisms Workshops are designed to help individuals identify and cope with stress effectively. Through various techniques such as relaxation exercises, time management strategies, problem solving skills, emotional regulation strategies and cognitive behavioural approaches, participants learn how to manage their stress levels and improve their overall mental health. These workshops provide practical tools to navigate the pressures of daily life with greater ease and confidence.
Doodling Sessions
Doodling Sessions offer a relaxed and accessible way to engage in creative expression. Research shows that doodling can enhance focus, reduce stress, and improve mental clarity. By allowing the mind to wander and create spontaneously, doodling helps people of any age process emotions and thoughts in a non-verbal way. These sessions are perfect for anybody who is looking to explore mindfulness and creativity in a supportive group setting.
Creating A Life Worth Living: Rediscovering Hope
This is a course for people who have attended our EPiC HOPE Harbours for crisis support and are ready to reconnect with meaning and hope in their lives. Participants complete the course with a renewed sense of purpose and a practical action plan for the future.
